Masonry and tuckpointing work shows up across chimneys, fireplaces, hearths, and exterior brick details. The goal is to repair the joint or masonry condition without creating a new incompatibility problem.

Why Tuckpointing Matters
Mortar joints protect the masonry assembly. When joints open, soften, or wash out, water can move into the brickwork. In Northern Illinois weather, repeated wet and cold cycles can accelerate the damage.
Tuckpointing Is Not Always Enough
If brick faces are failing, the chimney is moving, or the water source is still active, tuckpointing alone may not solve the problem. A written scope should call out those limits before work begins.
